Elon Musk Envisions Tesla Optimus Humanoid Robot Mowing Your Lawn
Elon Musk has unveiled ambitious plans for the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot as a jack-of-all-trades assistant capable of performing various household chores—such as trimming the grass. This vision was laid out during Tesla’s “We Robot” event in October 2024, when Musk introduced Optimus as an all-around domestic robot capable of babysitting, grocery shopping, and mowing the lawn.
The Tesla Optimus human-shaped robot stands approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. It is powered by advanced artificial intelligence systems, similar to those used in Tesla’s autonomous vehicles, enabling it to navigate and perform tasks in dynamic environments. At the event, demonstrations showed Optimus serving drinks, dancing, and engaging with attendees—highlighting its potential for practical household use.

Musk sees the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot as an affordable household solution, estimating its price between $20,000 and $30,000. He believes it could eventually become a common home appliance, helping with a wide range of chores to improve everyday life.
While the robot’s capabilities are promising, experts advise caution against premature adoption of the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot in homes. Safety concerns, achieving full autonomy, and navigating complex residential environments remain major hurdles. Many predict Optimus could be deployed in controlled settings like factories by 2025, but widespread household integration may take several more years.
In the meantime, customers interested in robotic lawn care have other options. Products like the EcoFlow Blade offer autonomous lawn mowing via GPS technology, offering a glimpse into the near-future of home maintenance automation.
Although the Tesla Optimus robot marks a major step toward bringing humanoid robotics into daily life, its usefulness in home settings—including mowing the lawn—will ultimately depend on overcoming current technological and logistical limitations.
